Service Note For TPS No Responding

SYSTEM: 1.5T Twin excite (Software Version. 10.0M4)

PROBLEM/SYMPTOM

Application software is up, but report “TPS not responding” on error log. 

TROUBLESHOOTING HISTORY/HINT

1. Open c-shell, type ping –s 4096 IP( tps), find lose 95% data. Replace a new hub in system cabinet, but the symptom is same.

2. Open c-shell, type mgd_term, but can not open 3 separate windows .

3. Do tps reset, report “tps reset failed” at once.

4. The host does not recognize the scsi-serial terminal. Check scsi 8 port serial expansion box, find a led on box is not light.

5. Check expander scsi power supply, the power supply does not output. Open the power supply, find 3 points void-jointing. Jointing these points, but the power supply does not output.

6. Replace a new expander scsi power supply. Boot the MR system, The application software was hanged on the following screen, and the led on the scsi 8 port serial expansion box is not light.

7. Open command window, type mgd_term, dose not open 3 windows. Check that expnder scsi power supply is normal.

8. Do SGI diagnostic, SGI is ok. Check serial cable, it is ok. Check the power supply of the MGD, it is ok. But system cabinet, RF cabinet, Gradient cabinet is abnormal. The symptoms are same as following pictures:

9. I think the system cabinet, RF cabinet and Gradient cabinet is reset state. So the tps reset signal of the STIF board receive from the host is still enable. Cut off expander scsi power supply or the serial cable, boot the MR system, the application software is up, but report “ tps not responding”. The symptoms are same as the following pictures:

So scsi 8 port serial expansion box is bad too.

10. Replace a new scsi 8 port serial expansion box, boot the MR system, the led on the scsi 8 port serial expansion box is light, and the system is normal.

ROOT CAUSE/SOLUTION

The expander scsi power supply was fault, it burnt scsi 8 port serial expansion box. So we replaced the expander scsi power supply, the system was strange state.
